Where to begin getting help for a teen …

What to expect in getting help for a teen who has tired cutting themselves and feels it’s a release from their own anxiety? Going to start with GP? What should I be aware of?

GP and Psychologist. Try to get on the waitlist for a Psych who works with teens asap. Do not just stop at GP and meds. Psychologist will teach alternative ways to cope and triggers for the anxiety. A good Psychologist will spend time building rapport and working with the teen as well as the family and school if needed and consent is given by client. Definitely worthwhile going the therapy route

I was a cutter as a teen. Make them wear an elastic on their wrist and flick it whenever they feel like cutting. You get a similar sensation and it helps.
It's very addictive. It becomes a coping mechanism for self regulation and the only way to truly get rid of it is to replace it with a physical sensation similar.
