Ironing for people

Ironing for people

I was thinking about taking on ironing for people to get a bit of extra cash. I was going to advertise on gumtree etc. Do I need an ABN or anything like that? Is there anything I need to know? Also, what would be a good price? Thankyou

Not many people get their clothes ironed now so the iron ladies that are still out there would have it covered. Not too different though which I think would be popular is a washing, drying, folding business. I would charge $30 an hour to do at their home or $30 a load if they're dropping it off to you. Abns are easy to get, yes you should get one so you can write receipts for those that can claim the expense and you should probably look at insurance which shouldn't be too much for this type of service.

No one does this anymore. I just chuck mine in the drier or run the steamer around them. No one even owns an iron anymore

I own an iron and iron my work clothes. I used to iron kid's clothes too for quite some time as it relaxed me lol

At work we have quite a lot of people who get their clothes ironed. May be it depends on industry/work type.

People definitely still iron. There are people, like myself, who like my clothes ironed. I have an ironing lady and pay her $20/hr cash. I have no idea if she has an ABN but probably not.
Put an ad on your local BSS and I'm sure you will get something.

Clothes have changed so they don't need ironing. Workplaces and schools have mostly moved to uniforms that don't need ironing like polos or blended fabric because it looks better when most households don't have time to iron. Definitely a lot less people ironing today than 30 years ago, in another 30 years you won't even be able to find a new iron, they won't be worth selling.
