Fear of travel

Hey Mamas

In a couple of weeks I’m going to Fiji for a wedding with my family and extended family. We have all booked with non refundable tickets with Jetstar and since booking all the news is reporting is cancellations and delays with this company. Has anyone flown with them to Fiji? I have severe anxiety about flying, I have literally been throwing up daily. I’m petrified of dying in a plane crash - I had a dream that because all of the media have been slandering them they didn’t do the safety checks that were required so instead of delaying flights they sent them into the skies! I don’t know how to feel safe to fly and have trust in the engineers, pilots and staff and I don’t know how to get over the fear of dying with my family and hearing the screams as the plane goes down. I’ve lost 10 kilos in the last 2 weeks worrying myself sick. I don’t know what I’m really asking a part from - are they a safe airline or should I just loose the money and book with someone else - if so, who? Are people getting as delayed and stuffed around and out of pocket as the media are reporting? We have the highest travel insurance but when I enquired they said it was for a natural disaster not them cancelling and it was up to Jetstar to sort us out!

Wow you poor girl! I am the opposite, I have a fear of not travelling 😆 firstly I fly jetstar all the time over seas with my young kids. We fly around asia, to Hawaii, you make it, anywhere jetstar flys, so do we. I can assure you, we have never had one incident. At times we can do 10 flights in 1 holiday. We have never had a cancellation, or trouble with our plane.

Please try to focus on the wedding and the fun and experience you will have and shut off from the media. Cancelled flights are mostly never from Fiji.

Flights also get cancelled a lot because staff ring in sick. They need certain amount of stuff to operate else they can’t fly.

We have one of the best safety records in the world. Your plane will not crash.

Lastly I think you should speak to your Dr and also go and try hypnosis because this is very extreme what you are experiencing.

Don’t let this fear stop you. Overcome it and have the best holiday. Relax, change your thoughts everytime you start to think of it but please go seek professional help.

Have fun in Fiji 🌴☀️✈️

I forgot to add, there are so many flights in and out of Bali that cancellations are expected. Fiji is very unlikely. Jetstar are fantastic! All airlines are capable of cancellation, it’s just the media choose to focus on jetstar cancelations and not others. You wouldn’t even know how many other airlines need to cancel daily because the media don’t report it. They are bashing jetstar at the moment. Ignore it.

What part are you actually worried about the most? Everything can be solved here even if it was to happen. Except for a crash that won’t happen. You need to talk to your Dr. This is excessive worrying for nothing.

You need to rationalise these fears!
I fully appreciate that's hard to do because anxiety is usually completely illogical and irrational but you have to take back control of your thoughts!

Think of it this way, pilots and flight attendants all have families and loved ones to return to. They aren't going to willingly and knowingly endanger themselves or passengers.

Engineers, safety crew, big executives, they are also not going to put people's lives in danger. Their careers depend on it and no one would ever want a fatal plane crash resting on their conscience, so they aren't going to throw safety out the window in exchange for negligence just to spite the media - that would be insane!

I would urge you to get some professional help as well because it's affecting you on a pretty severe level.

1) my doc prescribes me valium for flying.
2) a friend of mine is a plane tech for Jetstar, and I guarantee their safety standards are super high.
