Contrave

Hello! Just wanting to hear from people who have tried Contrave and if it helped you? I know it's a lot of money but I'm currently at a BMI of 42 and my biggest issue is food addiction. I literally can not stop or control the cravings and I obssess over food. It's not as easy as "just not eating as much" so please no judgement 😟

I have tried every other way possible and I just can't seem to stick to it and feel like I'm destined to be severely overweight. I'm aware that it is an aide and I need to stick to diet and exercise as well but the thought of cravings not being as bad is definitely worth the try in my case as that is the main issue. I know the thought of having that aid will help me stick to it. This wasn't an easy post to make as I know there can be a lot of judgement and people thinking that I just want an easy way out. This is my last option before surgery. I am on Effexor for depression and anxiety which doesn't help in trying to lose weight. I currently have fibromyalgia, a very fatty liver and possible kidney issues caused by my weight. Along with the many other awful symptoms of obesity I honestly just need help 😓 I will be chatting to my dr at my appointment and also setting up with a dietician as well but really just wanting to hear how you went if you tried it? I'm 115kgs and aware that I did this to myself.

Please help, from a depressed and anxious mum of 4 who just wants to feel healthy and be happy in her own skin 😓 I want to look in the mirror and not be completely disgusted for what I've done to my body 💔

The more carbs and sugars you eat the hungrier you feel. It's a known fact . Completely swap out the way you eat . Eat just food full of fat for a few weeks and no carbs or sugars and watch your weight and appetite drop significantly. Then all you have to do is keep it up. I lost 30kg this way . After about 3 weeks your body will tell you it's no longer hungry when you're only eating fats and you will naturally cut portion sizes as your appetite decreases . Its basic metabolic Science . And it works.

Healthy fats though, not saturated or you’ll end up unwell.

I recommend reading DR Libby Weaver Accidently Overweight. She also offers a course, gives you a greater understanding have the significant factors that affect our weight and how we can reduce them.

I was like you too but started csiro total wellbeing diet 2 weeks ago and since following that the cravings have really eased. Definitely check it out and they have dietitians you can book with for personal advice at a cost of course. Good luck 🤞

A bit out there but if you are open to it try seeing a reputable kinesiologist for your food addictions. I have seen them help so many people with your exact issue. All the best.

I haven't tried Contrave but I did use Duromine and I found it very, very helpful. Duromine cuts your appetite and the sugar cravings almost instantly and increases your energy levels dramatically. Duromine looks to be a little cheaper than Contrave and they both seem to have similar side effects with the main difference being that Contrave is opioid based, and duromine will increase your blood pressure which can be a problem when you are overweight. I would suggest you listen to the doctors recommendation and then give it a go. These medications can certainly have some side effects but if you are ready to manage them and prepared to put the commitment in to changing your lifestyle and habits during the time you are on the meds, then go for it. Good luck!!!!

Try saxenda. Contrave makes you very very sick. Nausea is worse than anything. Saxenda although expensive after the first few months works alot better. Only thing that ever stopped me craving and wanting sugar

I have used Contrave. I followed the instructions to build up to the maximum dose over 4 weeks. I didn’t really have any issues the first 3 weeks aside from the occasional dull headache and half an hour of nausea sometimes after taking. Week 5, I started to have issues. I was feeling terribly depressed, not sleeping properly, the indigestion was horrible to the point I felt an uncomfortable pain in my back, like food had gone down the wrong way for hours after taking. In terms of weight loss, I lost about 6 kilos, about a kilo a week.
I stopped taking them before finishing the packet (6 weeks). I felt like I was doing more damage than good and I just couldn’t bare the thought of taking them any longer.
I know a lot people have had success with Contrave but it definitely wasn’t for me unfortunately.
