Food allergy testing info

Hi, I am after some information on food Allergy testing. Does anyone know the best way to get tested.

Who is the best person to see for this. I have randomly googled numbers for places but I am not sure if a naturopath is best for this or if I just to with a random local number and book.

I would love to hear from those who have had the testing done and is it worth it. Is it reliable? Do they test for all allergies or only specific.

If anyone has suggestions of any good places to get this test done, in any areas close to the Gold Coast, that would great.

Speak to your GP. They will know who the best person to refer you to in your area is. They will also be able to discuss with you why you suspect an allergy and, if needed, refer you to a dietitian to discuss eliminating the food from your diet.

Make an appt with an allergist/ immunologist. Pretty pricey though.

Thank you the GP’s all tell me the same thing. It’s pricey and a waste of money but I want it done for myself, so I know what to avoid.

It's not a waste, in my case anyway. Sorry that was a no help answer for you.
I guess it depends on why you believe you have allergies to food/s, it's frequency and severity.
Nutritionist and naturopath will likely ask you keep a food diary - lots of deficiencies can cause allergy skin symptoms. Poor diet can cause imbalances of microbiome. Food additives etc can cause multiple issues - this is what they will look at first. Definitely worth if your after a holistic approach!

Thanks this is helpful info. It’s so hard to pin point what exactly I am alergic to. I will eat something and start wheezing, sinus flares up and nasal congestion. Intestinal issues. Itchy skin. I feel my body react to something and I find it so hard to pin point what, even with elimination and a food diary.

Sounds like it could be diamine oxidase (DAO - enzyme) deficiency. Usually caused by medications, histamine foods, IBD and / or bacterial overgrowth. Maybe just have read about it, see if it fits what you're describing and seek help from which ever health professional you end up seeing.
I'm only a 2nd year BHs Nutr, but it would be my first guess as your elimination and food diary efforts give no answer.
All the best!

Thank you so much for this information. I had no idea that this was even a thing. Everything describes me to a T! Even the migraine. My next question is if you don’t mind, how do I test for this and is there a supplement to help this. I don’t know where to start but very keen to give what every it takes a try. Would it be a naturopath or dietician, I see for this. Google doesn’t give me any answers on this.

I would think a naturopath or clinical nutritionist could do a test.
There are things you can do and supplement with. Avoiding or reducing high histamine foods, include a good probiotic, increase fibre gradually ( should be having approx 25g per day). Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine. There are other supplements that can benefit you, but would only be required if you are deficient - you would need a nutritional assessment first. Hope that helps you.

Start with your GP. Depending on what info and your situation they will refer you to an allergist/dietitian/gastroenterologist.
A lot will depend on your symptoms and severity and family history.

I APPRECIATE FEEDBACK BUT PLEASE STOP TELLING ME TO SEE A GP! THAT WASNT MY QUESTION. THATS WHY I AM POSTING. ONLY AFTER ADVICE ON MY QUESTION. THANK YOU EVERYONE 😃

Specialists won’t let you make an appointment without a referral from your GP.

You could make an appointment with a dietitian without a referral and work through an elimination diet.

Seeing a GP is answering your question. They will know the immunologists in your area that can do the testing and make the referral. If you live in Brisbane, there is also a clinic of GPs that do the testing under the umbrella of a top immunologist that are slightly cheaper. Naturopath testing isn't accurate and won't be accepted as correct and you would need to pay an immunologist to confirm it for any treatment.

And specialists won’t even book an appointment with out a referral from a GP

GPS keep telling me it’s a waste of money and to figure it out by elimination. My bloods also show my body has an allergy but could be anything. . Sounds like just what I need. No Dr has ever mentioned an immunologist to me so this is very helpful. Thanks
