Work for a Socially Anxious Teen

Hello lovely sisterhood

My 14 year old daughter's friends are all getting themselves jobs to earn a bit of spending money as they maneuver their way through these emotionally hectic years.

I can see that she really wants to be like her friends, but she suffers extreme social anxiety and doesn't think she'll be able to do anything that involves having to serve or talk with customers.

Can anyone recommend any type of work for a teen beginner that will hopefully make her comfortable enough to get out there and earn her own money.

We are in Western Australia.

Thank you

1. If she's good at creating and managing social media posts and you have friends in business - maybe she could help them with creating and scheduling posts, running response reports, etc
2. If she's into books - work at the local library re-shelving books
3. Work at the local animal shelter or boarding kennels cleaning out and exercising animals

I think your daughter would benefit from customer interaction. If she is this socially anxious then seeing a therapist would be most beneficial to her so she can overcome this. I'd be booking her in now so the therapist can help her roleplay for interviews, customer interaction and conflicts
Your daughter will need this skills as she grows older and it would be beneficial to do it now while she is still young instead of later. Good luck to her, I'm sure she will be great

Yes!!!
As a socially anxious person, I wholeheartedly agree. Every job/career will require some level of interaction with unknown people so it is important to learn those skills and find the coping strategies.

I'm never gonna have the overt confidence or interpersonal skills of a club promoter or a car salesman for example 😂 (I'm thinking neither will your daughter) but being a "check out chick" did help me hone in my basic social skills and did help me become more accustomed to uncomfortable social settings.
