Child moved away for uni

Hi mumma
Question to see if anyone has had there child move away from where they live to go to university and their child has been able to claim assistance from centrelink.
Background
The degree being studied is only offered nearly 2000klms from our home town.
Child has applied at numerous places for a job but is still having no luck.
Apparently the payment said child can apply for is means tested and goes off parent income and we earn too much.
Said child is now nearly 20 and wants to attempt to become independent but obviously needs money to do so.
Child needs to be able to prove being independent and cut off so to speak from family. But with no income how does he do this.
Any advice or any ideas how to navigate the Centrelink system??

Unless they get a job that works around uni itโ€™s left to us to support them. Sadly lots of kids drop out because they struggle to juggle a job and uni and most parents find it hard to support them financially especially if they live away.

Centrelink for this age bracket absolutely stinks and I won't be surprised if there's homeless, hungry young adults out there because their parents aren't supporting them when Centrelink just decides they should be just because they earn a certain amount.

I'm earning under the amount at the moment so my daughter was eligible to apply. She applied in MARCH, sent all paperwork through and waited and waited. She has been going to job link appointments and even has done work for the dole until her case manager learnt that she had not even been paid yet so told her to stop coming. In AUGUST she rang to see how her claim was going, they told her everything is fine she just has to wait. SEPTEMBER they cancel her claim because her paperwork was not correct. It took 6 months for them to look at it and not even try and contact her to get her to sort it out, just cancelled it. So I made her lodge a complaint and they are hopefully sorting it out now. What a headache though, I just really feel for the kids who have NOBODY to support them but have to go through this, how are they living? Even kids of wealthy parents can be financially unsupported! I can just see this as a reason why so many kids drop out of uni or TAFE.

Just to address all the tax payers out there that have been slaving away since they were 10 and have done 3 degrees while working 12 hours a day and paying all their bills whilst looking after their sick Grandma who are dying to slam their well earnt keyboards, my daughter is studying part time Uni until next year when she is going to be studying full time, she has been looking for a job and has now actually found a job but it's seasonal so she still needs to sort Centrelink out for next year so she too can become a regular payer of tax one day ๐Ÿ‘Œ

When I moved out I couldn't get centrelink. Both my parents had to write to them to say why I couldn't live there with them. (Not the best relationship with my dad and stepmum and my mum lived in the US) It was the only way. It sucks. I was lucky as I did have my Aunt to live with so she helped until my centrelink came through.
