Cairns

Has anyone made the move to Cairns?

We are considering relocating our small family from Sydney to Cairns. I am a Primary Teacher and my partner is a truck driver.

I'd particularly love to know how you found finding work (bonus points of course if you can provide insight into our industries)?
We would be, eventually, looking to buy in Clifton Beach, Ellis Beach, Kewarra Beach or Trinity Beach. Any feedback on these areas? What are the state schools like?
And how do you find the lifestyle? I'm so excited and equally nervous. We have a 5yo, 2yo and newborn. We have done a few family holidays, but obviously this doesn't compare to living permanently...!

We moved from vic to Townsville. The life style up here is amazing! Lots of work especially as a teacher.

Do it! I moved up here 20+ years ago with a 6yo & 3yo. We travel the world but Cairns is HOME like nowhere else has ever been :) Fantastic outdoor lifestyle, great infrastructure - schools, health, shopping, sports. And really safe compared to big cities (obviously everywhere has its hot spots, we're not perfect). Great place to raise kids. Just do it!

Agree. The facilities in Cairns are amazing. Also the hospital (as much as most people moan) is fantastic!
There's so much to do, so much to see. Even when you're absolutely broke, go for a walk along the Esplanade and sample all the ice-cream 😂

We went from Wyong to Cairns. Absolutely loved it. Crime is a bit full on but it's also relatively easy to deal with. The humidity takes some getting used to. Hospitality is so easy to find work in. Absolutely love Cairns.
