New job?

New job?

Hi, I've been teaching for close to a decade now. With my husband's long hours, I am finding it hard to do all the after hours work required with my young family. Has anyone gone into something different after they were a teacher? I work part-time currently but still find it taking a toll. Any ideas of career changes would be appreciated and if you had a better work-life balance! Thanks IMs

My auntie went in to tutoring. Less workload but mostly after school hours.
One friend got a job training other teachers in STEM.
Another friend became a florist.

Teacher’s Aide, personal carer, disability worker, all flexible hours! There’s also a huge demand for at home tutoring depending on your location.

If there are plenty of schools around, look at casual teaching. When there is enough work, it is a great job. Maybe supplement with a second job for the quiet half of the year from Oct- April, swimming teacher or tutor.

You will find it very hard to find something with the same pay, part time and all the holidays.
I would think very carefully before giving up an ongoing part time teaching gig.
You could end up with a lot less pay and having to fork out for school holiday care.

You won't get anything that matches the income for the hours. Maybe do relief teaching so you don't have planning

I would honestly try going back to casual. Better money with no class commitments.
I know of plenty of schools struggling for casuals, so you'll always have the work when you want it.
