Weird heart beat sensation while pregnant

Weird heart beat sensation while pregnant

I’m currently 26 weeks pregnant with #3 and experiencing these weird chest palpitations/thumps.
I have OF COURSE spoken to my obgyn and midwife but when the halti monitor is put on me- they disappear.
I had them for 4 weeks when I was 14 weeks, and I’ve had them for the same now.
It doesn’t feel like my heart is beating faster or slower, just when it beats every 3rd best is a massive THUD.
It leaves me feeling exhausted.

The only other time I’ve experienced anything like it was with Bub 1- again halti was put on and they went away, and a few years ago when I was a tad overweight I’d get them after eating certain sweet foods.

It now happens when I’m lying down, sitting, walking, you name it.
It’s unnerving and it’s really bothering me.
It’s midnight and I can’t sleep because of it (tried my back, each side, nothing helps). When I hold my breath the THUD stops, but as soon as I breathe again it’s back.

The obgyn said it can happen sometimes in pregnancy, but without catching it on a monitor it’s really hard.

Have you experienced anything like it?

I have had palps before even not in pregs...they can be completely normal, it sounds like ur so tuned into ur body with anxiety/fear about it that u will notice these things. Being anxious alone can cause all sorts of things like this. Try to do some mindfulness and engage in some kind of activity to keep ur mind off it! If u can't get ur mind off it and it is worrying u so much, see a cardiologist!Ur heart is working it's hardest whilst ur pregs so make an app to see one asap!

It’s is unsettling! But holta monitors will only pick it up if your having the abnormal rhythm while it’s on. My heart specialist got me to present to GP or emergency when I was having symptoms for an ECG that was the best way for me. As like you my heart didn’t do it all the time. It can be ok, watch for your triggers and Persue it until your confident with the diagnose and care! Good luck mumma

Yes I did. My heart goes into Atrial Tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. I have had an ablation which helped settle my symptoms for a good 2 years but unfortunately it has returned. I’m in a category where my heart self corrects quickly and my heart rate is on the low side so there is not much more they can do until it gets worse. It’s super easy to live with as I can go weeks without symptoms. I have noticed my triggers and avoid them for example cold and flu tablets, alcohol, anti-inflammatories. Make sure that you report to your GP your signs and symptoms. It is possible that after pregnancy your symptoms won’t persist.

Have you had a stress test? Have you had an ECG? Do you have a positive family history of any cardiac issues?

Maybe you need to see a cardiologist.

But in saying that your body is overloaded during pregnancy so it may just be a pregnancy symptom you get.

Early pregnancy (before I took the test) my heart would race while in a hot bath, that was my first symptom that I may be pregnant.

It sounds like ectopic heart beats. I'm 28 and I suffer from these very very frequently. It's like a pause then big thud. It's very unnerving. I have seen a cardiologist and it's not a serious condition.
