My daughter started high school this year, and after a recent parent teacher interview. Her English teacher has recommended reading "age appropriate" novels to help her with comprehension.
My daughter has never been a huge reader. Don't get me wrong, she is not behind in reading, but does not go out of her way to read a book!
What books are your 12yr old/ yr 7 children reading? We've gone to the library and she keeps going for the junior books as she seems to be getting put off by the content of the young adult books. With the majority, being what I feel should be, aimed at say a 15yr old.

Try Harry Potter.
It's a series I still enjoy as an adult but the dialogue is well suited to that age/comprehension level.
My 11 year old is rather enjoying the Skulduggery Pleasant series.
Other than that, there really is a gap in the market for books aimed at girls of this age group that don't allude to sex, drugs and chasing boys 🙄

Hunger games? I know the storyline is a bit gory but if she's not sensitive she will be fine. My daughter read it at the same age and I read them when she was finished. I have ADD and really struggle to read novels, that was the first set I had read and easily followed in years.
