Free flight upgrade.. is that still a thing?

I’m flying Emirates on a a 14hr flight in economy with my 14mth old baby. My husband is coming with and opted to sit next to me in economy but this is also his work trip so they will pay for his seat in business class if he wishes. My question is.. if he moved to business class can I swap seats with him during the flight so I can lay down with Bub? Also what are the chances of me getting bumped up for free if there’s a spare seat beside him..? Can anyone in the know give me any tips on how to get myself a free upgrade??

I wouldn't rely on being upgraded...you could probably jump in the business class seat though during the flight. You could get 2 economy seats in yours and bubs names then you can sit together or take it in turns of sitting in the business class seat to get sleep. You have bub in economy while he has a sleep then he has bub in economy while you sleep.

The only true answer will come from the airline. They all have different rules. Upgrades are usually reserved for frequent fliers but you can ask.

Personally, I'd be happier with my husband next to me the whole time to share care of the baby. Otherwise, even going to the toilet or eating requires a mammoth effort or help from kind strangers.

I wouldn't make my plan based on the possibility. It is such a gamble and if there are no spare seats in business then its an absolute no. Remember airlines commonly over book/over sell flights.
Personally Id book both seats in economy, at least you will have two of you to share the load and can sit together and go to the loo and stuff without having to find each other etc.

Would be handy if someone on here worked at Emirates, maybe ask the IM if she can make an exception and put on fb ASAP so you have a chance of getting the info you need before you book.

Honestly obviously they're not going to tell her that she can get a free $8000(?) ticket just so she can sit next to her husband. That's common-sense. Really the airline can't even help her with her choice, she either books two seats together or she doesn't. There's no way she can be guaranteed a seat upgrade.

These days if a flight has extra business class seats, they will usually open it to bidding - like an auction. You put in jow much you'll pay and if you're the highest bidder, you get it.
I got an upgrade for $100 once.

You will never get a free upgrade with a baby and they will move you on out of business too. Business class tolerates babies aid they are paying but would never choose to have kids in there . I think you are looking for a unicorn
