We have it, not sure what's bad about it because we haven't had any problems. We save about a third off our bill and that's not being careful with power, using the dryer and aircon all the time. Literally don't even think about them or have to do anything.
The negatives are install price, or if it's poor quality or poorly installed.
A reputable installer will give you individual info (based on your prior bills) on its cost/benefit long term & install in the right position for maximum power generation.
It's takes a nice $ relief off your bill.
My friend has just had a large (6kw I think) system put on & it cuts about a third off her bill.
I've a small 1.5kw system and my last bill was $20 (about $200 off from system). It was a summer bill, though, so more hours of sun & less power use and we have everything in the house power efficient. I'm also on the old 44c tariff so probably comparable to having a larger system. When the 44c runs out we're hoping battery systems are cheaper & will add more panels too.
It will depend on your house and your goals.
Our goal was to be greener.
Our roof is very well positioned. We are also home during the day, so we could maximise usage. We were lucky enough to be gifted a battery.
We’ve never had any issues with it and rarely use the grid.
If you have a very small roof space that doesn’t get the sun, it may not be worth it.
Make sure you get multiple, multiple quotes and advice. My mum got some terrible advice which would have meant she would have bought a lot of panels that didn’t catch sunlight. Luckily she saw through the sales pitch and got more info.
My parents have one, it is great, no bills, but we live in a tropical environment.
I would get it in a heart beat if i could afford it.
It hasn't been great for us. We live in QLD and we only get about $100 or our bill each quarter.
We are going to get our inverter checked and our panels cleaned but it definitely has not been worth the outlay for us
