When I was working one Saturday, I looked out the window and saw a balloon attached to my car. Thinking that was really bazaar, went about my day.
I finished, grabbed the ballon and jumped in my car to find an envelope on my dash. I opened and it read “I am sending you on a treasure hunt, you must follow the clues which will hopefully lead you to something very special at the end. Clue #1 - head to the first place we met. I know it’s a little strange, but just look out for the red balloon and the second clue”

So off I go to the primary school we both went to, and met at. Drove around a few times looking for this balloon. And the second clue read “Think about the first place we kissed to see if there was anymore to our long friendship”

So I head to my mums house. And sure enough, another ballon at her front door and the third clue telling me to head to the place that we first made love. Embarrassingly I drive to his parents house and they hand me my final ballon and clue. “Head to the place where we had our 1 year Anniversary picnic” and off I go again... to the beautiful gardens we have locally, searching around the place until I find him down on one knee with a picnic basket full of goodies to have a beautiful lunch

It’s one of my most treasured days. He couldn’t have done it any better.

For me, proposals are very private things. Me, my partner, face to face in private.

I’ve had a big over the top proposal and it was mortifying for me and the guy when I turned him down.

I’m saying yes to the guy and the quality of our Relationship, not a guys ability to put on a big song and dance.

I don't like the big proposal honestly. I think it should be an intimate discussion like lying in bed talking etc. Making it showy/gimmicky takes away from it in my opinion.

See I disagree here.
I think a bit of effort put in makes it special...it's not everyday you get proposed to!

I guess I don't like the 'production' taking away from something intimate. I also cringe at gender announcements and cutesy pregnancy announcements. I don't see why you don't just say it up front and have people be focused on the good news instead of the delivery of the news. It feels fake. But I totally get that's just me and that others love it. I also just wanted an intimate bbq wedding. Other than the dress, I didn't want the rest of the stuff. I had some of it but only because it was important to my mum.

You aren’t alone. I also feel big productions are designed to trap the person into saying yes. It forces a yes, so the person proposing isn’t embarrassed.
If someone is proposing to me the last thing I want is an audience pressuring me to say yes, because it’s romantic, without any understanding of the quality of the relationship.

I think a proposal depends a lot on the person. For me my husband proposed on a deserted beach while we were on holidays, just the two of us, with a ring he chose, it was perfect to me. For my sil her only conditions were she wanted her dad's permission asked and for him to get down on one knee. For others they want the extravagant proposal - so think about the type of person she is and what SHE would want and not what will make for a good story

It depends on the his partner honestly.
Is she the type of girl who'd love a grand romantic gesture or is she a girl like me who finds all this stuff massively cringe worthy and embarrassing?

If it were me, I'd be stoked if I found my engagement ring in a pizza box 😂
