Stained carpets in rental (nsw)

We're in nsw and been living in this house for 4 years now and the all the carpets (wool berber) in the rooms are very very worn to the point it's coming up off the matting in sections around the doors and skirting boards.
Anyway about 2 years ago while I was at work the kids spilt chocolate milk on the spare room floor. Now being a typical man my husband just through a towel over it and let it sit so it soaked in and dried. I have used a Britax machine 5 times in that room and tried peroxide, bi carb and vinegar,
Carpet spot stain removal, everything! and the stain just seems to be getting bigger!

The carpet is definitely past its depreciation life and according to tribunal I wouldn't have to pay for new carpet as its too old. I'm going to try one last attempt at a professional steam cleaning but I don't see it helping at all. We don't plan on moving anytime soon so I'm thinking or replacing it myself with a more durable carpet, but I won't be able to afford that for awhile and worried if we have to move before we can afford it. What has been other people's experiences on damaged carpet and what has happened to them? I'm more worried the landlord will buy something ridiculously expensive and use the whole bond even though technically he can't.

From personal experience the tribunal in NSW is very fair. If your landlord tries to withhold your bond you can take them to the tribunal to get it back.
I got my entire bond back when a landlord tried to withhold bond.
I wouldn't replace the carpet at all. Stains on carpet over it's lifetime are pretty normal. It sounds like the owner should have already replaced the carpet and as you've already spoken to the tribunal it sounds like your back is covered.
The tribunal was very easy to deal with and low stress. Take good quality photos that show the carpet needs to be replaced anyway and you'll be alright.

Have you asked the landlord if he/she will replace it? In our last rental the carpet was well worn in one room and when I asked if they would replace it they said yes and did the rest of the house at the same time. Its worth asking.

It's taken us 6 months just to get the oven replaced (yes an emergency repair!) Hes hopeless when it comes to repairs so I highly doubt he will replace it unless forced too.
It sucks we love the area and everything just gotta deal with landlord from hell
