How do I get involved with the school?

I have a child who has just started high school and another child starting high school next year. How do I get involved with the school? I want to start making friendships but also have involvement with the school. I never had the time to do it through primary school and I also suffer from anxiety. I know it’s hard because high schoolers don’t get walked in to school or anything like that. Every time I go to an event or something, everyone knows everyone and talk to each other in groups and stuff and I feel like a d*ck standing in the corner. Any help please?!

High school is tricky. If they need volunteers it will usually be in the school newsletter. Parents don’t get involved in day to day stuff, just attend events.
Most parents will have made connections through out primary school/.kids play dates/ after school sports etc. and so you’ll be witnessing the flow on from that.
Do your kids go to others houses or have other kids come to your house? Usually someone drops them/picks them up still at that age? Do they play sports,:or similar?

Socially, it’s friends parents or through the school parents page. If there isn’t one, go on your local page and ask if there is one for year 7s next year and if not, suggest making one.

If the school has a tuckshop or canteen they often need volunteers to help out. This is a great way to meet other parents.
