I am wanting to know, if anyone knows what the difference is with allergy testing clinics and a specialist.
I have a referral from my Dr for a specialist for allergy testing but also know of some clinics without a referral that are cheaper.
Can a Dr do more testing than these allergy clinics, that are cheaper. Does anyone know the difference.
The price difference is quite a lot but my guess is that the referral one would be far better? I want to stick to the referral but curious price wise.
It’s probably a case of, you pay for what you get!
Please no unwanted advice. I only asked what the difference of the 2 is. I know some people in here like to add their 2 bobs worth for things that aren’t part of the question.

When I had my son tested last year I discovered most of the 'practitioners' & 'clinics' were alternative therapy providers & not medically trained to do testing, or diagnose allergies. Hence the referral to the only local specialist.
You'll also get medicare rebates for the specialist.
Check the credentials of the doctors at clinics if unsure. I can't speak for them all. They may be legit.
I will definitely go with the referral, it’s such a long wait list but hoping they will get me in sooner. Thanks for the info, it’s been helpful and confirmed what I was thinking.
Go with an actual doctor. Those allergy testing clinics will tell you you are allergic to everything.
I fell for one years back and basically it was a stepping stone to sell me a bunch of nonsense therapies. You’ll end up spending a bunch more money in the long run on so called therapies.
If your GP has referred you to a place that’s where you should go.
The fact you don’t need a referral is a big red flag.
Yes everyone I know who has been to one has said they are alergic to almost everything 😂 makes sense. Just wanted to make sure because the wait list is so long and it’s so expensive but we’ll worth the price.
Actually in Brisbane there is a group of specially trained gps who work under a specialist where you don’t need a referral but it’s quicker to get in and cheaper and they are just as thorough and good!
Allergy medical Newstead if you’re in the area.
Great thanks!
Thanks just looked it up and he is the one I’ve been referred to.
