Weightloss surgery

Gastric surgery, yes or no?

Im considering weight loss surgery as I have been over weight my whole life and I'm sick of it.

Also people who have always had a weigh issue im interested in if you have successfully lost weight and kept in off for 3+ years without weight loss surgery. I spend my life losing 10 and gaining 15 and so on.

My husband has lost 61 kilos since January just by eating a high fat , low carb , low sugar diet ( essentially keto ). From 161 kilos to 101kg and counting. The higher the fat content , the less hungry you are. It's also good for you.

I’ve just started ozempic, it’s an injection. I’m having fantastic results. Do some research and see if it’s an option you might like to try

I had gastric sleeve surgery a few years ago, it's a great tool but unless you change your eating habits you can put the weight back on. I'm on Ozempic and have great results, there's a FB group where you can find lots of information about it.

Join the Bariatric Surgery Australia FB group. It is run by amazingly open, honest people who have all had the surgery. It's a great support page too. I am 3.5 months post Gastric Bypass and just under 25kg down since the day of surgery. Recovery wasn't painful or difficult. The first 8 weeks after surgery you have to retrain your stomach to get used to foods and textures again which can be a bit of a mind game, but it's not the end of the world. Everyone will have a different experience to share, but I can't complain too much! I had 75kg to lose, and after trying every diet under the sun and yo-yo-ing literally my entire life I made the decision to have the surgery. People will tell you absolute horror stories about their 'friends & family' who have had the surgery and try to talk you out of it, but at the end of the day it is your body, your choice and your health.

I haven't had it done but 4 of my close mates have. The short of it has been all out some / all weight back on, around the 5yr mark. I think if you are serious on working on you, please sort out your why first. You don't end up over weight for no good reason so if all medical issues are rules out, get your head ready. The stuggles i have observed is being left out at many so i things as eating is removed for that person so feel awkward when out, be preparing answer questions. Grieving for special foods that where association birthdays, other events. No soft drink and booze is out for a good chunk of time. Not saying don't do it but need to really be ready for the challenge to change your whole life, go for it.
