Paid Parental Leave

Paid Parental Leave

Hi ladies;

I’m currently pregnant and due late October.
I’ve just found out that my employer has sold the business and I will be unemployed.

I have met all conditions that I’m aware of surrounding paid parental leave - but does being “unemployed” make me ineligible?

*I will be contacting Centrelink re: this but I’m anxious 😥

If you've met the work test of 10 months of the last 13 months & income test, you're eligible. Ýou don't need to be employed when getting it or have a job to go back to. It's the time BEFORE birth.

I was made redundant right at the end of my employer's 6 month paid parental leave (govt type job) and knew I would be, so opted for the govt mat leave to be paid after that, while I was 'unemployed' (to max out the time my employer had to pay me). Had no problems.

If you're a permanent employee, check if you should be getting a redundancy payout. Don't take their word for it. Check your award & Fair Work Australia if unsure.

My friend started working after she found out she was pregnant and still got the paid parental leave even though it didn’t fit the time line. She also quit after a little while into the job. Not sure how center link works but she somehow scammed her way into getting the full paid leave. Go figure.
