4yr old daughter with bowel issues

Hi all, for the past 12 months my daughter has been having sticky smelly poos that stick to her knickers. We have been back and forth to Doctors with no luck and finally seen a paediatrician a couple months ago. She suggested constipation and advised movicol. This has reduced the smell and made her poos more soft, but they are not forming still. My daughter hates trying to do poos on the toilet and I'm not sure if this is because of the consistency of her poo. She eats well and drinks water, I'm at a loss of what could be causing this or what else to do. She has had a blood test that showed nothing. We are waiting for another appointment with the paediatrician. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

Change her diet and see what happens. Bloods don’t mean anything really. Has she done a stool sample. Go and request one from your Dr.

Thank you, we had stool samples done and it showed she had a bacteria active (can't remember the name now) but showed no other issues

Yep diet. Up the water, and replace milk to lactose free. Keep up the movicol. Reassure her that poos shouldnt be like this normally, I say poor Sarah. Your poor bottom. You have such trouble, hey. We need to fix this. And she started repeating it, getting the message its not always like that.theyre so little they dont know. She also hurt so much she would choose to drink 'water for her bottom' or eat the good food 'for her bottom'.

Thank you, I'll look more into her diet and see what we should/shouldn't give her. I guess it will be trial and error.

my daughter has lived this for the past 2 years. osomolax to soften poop every morning and dulcolax drops every night to move it along. remove dairy from the diet. we see a gastroenterologist, wee drs occupational therapist to retrain the bowel and bladder as they are connected, and paeds often. ultrasound is a good thing to see what's happening inside too get one of these done too. my little one does 2 poos a week now and that a huge improvement on what the last 2 years have been. she uses a tens machine on her lower back also to re program the insides.
sorry if this is all over the place but I really wish you well on this uphill battle, make sure you are firm with the drs and don't take no for an answer keep pushing. we have been on a list to see another gastroenterologist specialist for the past year and hope to get that app this year some time. good luck xo

We had exactly the same issue. After some scans, It turns out she was compacted so the poo coming out was really old poo, hence the smell. It sort of leaks out so she wouldn’t have control over getting to a toilet.
We had to take an over the counter medication called dulcalax every night, which encouraged the poos to form so when she pood it was a ‘whole poo’ and not just small bits - and also movical to keep the poo soft.
We go back on the dulcalax every school holidays for a week, and we’ve had no issues since.
