*Trigger Warning - Medical Termination Experience*

*Trigger Warning - Termination*

Hi Sisterhood,
I recently found out that I'm roughly 5 weeks pregnant. For my own personal reasons I won't be able to go through with this pregnancy. Please no judgement and I am 100% certain of my decision.
Because I am under 9 weeks I have the option of a medical termination (taking the tablets) rather than a surgical termination. Has anyone had this done and can share their experience please? I have been told it can be quite traumatising and painful.

I have had 2. One for a termination and the other was a silent miscarriage. The first tablet ends the pregnancy and the second one brings on elimination of the pregnancy. First time I didnt find it that bad if Im really honest, the first one I kept myself busy with fixing a door at home and then I went for a 6 hour drive. This was against all advice from the Dr who told me to stay home and rest so I wouldnt recommend! The second time I was in hospital for it as I lost my baby at 12 weeks so there was more risk involved. I found that to be like early stages of labour. I think you can expect severe cramping, nausea and just feeling horrible.

It sounds like the morning after pill loaded with hormones. I've had them before. Nausea, cramps and vomiting are a huge side effect .

I was told to have a surgical termination as the medical ones can be horrible. If it doesn’t all come out you need a surgical one anyway. The surgical one was okay and I recovered quickly. Sending big hugs xx.

I did this and I nearly bled to death. Ended up with a raging uterine infection due to retained products, needed heavy antibiotics and a blood transfusion.

I have recently gone through this at just over 6 weeks and I had no problems at all. The first 4 hours were pretty rough with shakes and feeling nauseous but I found it no worse than a very heavy and crampy period. The earlier you are, the less “traumatising” or so I am led to believe.

I had the tablets. It was awful. So painful. But I also have really nasty period cramps as well, so that may not have helped.

It was better in the sense I didn’t need surgery, but the pain was so bad

I had a surgical termination. Doesnt take long stayed at clinic for about an hour post op. Then went home and rested for the rest of the day.
No pain no cramping no uncomfortable feeling.
Back at work the next day no issues. There was medication i had to take for like 2 weeks after, dont remember what it was

Please if you’re considering a termination, do a surgical one.
I found the medical one quite traumatising and regretted it immediately. The process is drawn out and quite a scary thing to face at home on your own. I was so lucky to have my husbands support but still wish I never went through with it.

I had to for a missed miscarriage.. so I did the tablets, the pain started off like light period pain, which lead to more pain In my back and I woke up the next morning to horrible horrible pain in my uterus, I had an infection and it was so bad, my sister called the ambos, I don't remember much from there just that it was worse than labour for me... and it was like I constantly had to pee, I was given morphine and antibiotics and drip for a week... the bleeding wasn't to bad but I was bleeding for about 4weeks lightly... I'll never forget the way people accused me of getting an abortion when it wasn't... I was made to feel like utter shit... I will never forget it and I have had 2 healthy boys after then.
The mental health side to this day I will never be the same.... I wish you all the best though with everything xoxo

I had a medical termination last July (5 weeks , 3 days)
It was no more painful than a period
I was in my own home/ bed, my husband looked after me, had the first tablet at night, everything started early am, took second tabs went on to have a period type bleed,
They gave me panadeine forte and I didn’t even need to take any.
Was a hard decision for us but the right one,
Best of luck, x

I had a medical termination in February. It is like a miscarriage.
I was 7.5 weeks along when I had it done. My experience was probably out of the normal. But I’ve had 4 miscarriages so my body knows what to do. I passed the complete sac. It was fully intact. I could see inside of it and the contents. The nurse who checked in with me said it sounded like my body was preparing to miscarriage anyway.

I have had both types of terminations throughout different times in my life with the medical termination taking place 2 years ago and I wouldn't recommend it. If you have the option of going in to have a surgical termination I would absolutely choose to do that.
The pain is incredibly intense and lasts for hours. Plus it also made me incredibly nauseous and throwing up.
I then unfortunately had problems after for months on end where I would literally gush out litres of blood whenever I got my period. (TMI Sorry!!) There were days I couldn't even stand up as i would just bleed non stop. My periods would go for weeks on end.
In the end I had to go to hospital for a day procedure and they found parts of the pregnancy still in there 10 months later that had calcified. All up it was one of the worst experiences of my life.
Good luck with your decision. I hope whichever way you choose to go, everything goes well.

Had a medical abortion when almost 8 weeks.
Was given strong pain killers, and anti nausea medication by the doctor when getting the abortion pill.
The painkillers must have helped as I didn't find it any more painful than a heavy period.
The first few hours were extremely heavy, I bleed through multiple pads + clothes.
Once it slowed, was like a normal period, but lasted for 2-3 weeks.
Had no issues afterwards.

I’ve had two.

Both at 6-7 weeks.

The first I bled a lot, I soaked through maternity pads every half an hour once it began. I was feeling short of breath and was drinking Powerade coz I was worried about electrolytes and stuff - after 2 hours of bleeding commencing- I had to do a 3 hour drive. An hour and a half down the road I stopped at maccas to use their bathroom, stepped out of the car and gushed blood onto the ground in the car park looking like a puddle. I was glad it was dark and I was in black leggings- I went in and changed and continued my drive. My bleeding slowed a little after that but continued to be like a very very heavy period for the next 10 hours. Changing pads every 2 hours. I had no pain.

The second time, it was like a period, I didn’t have excessive blood loss, I didn’t have pain, it was very easy for me.

I’ve also had surgical and that was fine also- I had no pain and was able to do housework and care for my children immediately after.

I’m now on a contraceptive pill that works for me and I’ve not had to experience any for the last 2 years which is amazing.. 😌

Good luck, whichever way you go, I hope your journey is comfortable as possible for you. ❤️
