How long would you expect to wait to hear back about a rental? The market is super competitive at the moment. I put an application in on Monday and got a phone call yesterday (Thursday) just clarifying a few things and it sounded pretty positive. When should I expect to hear from them if I have been approved?

In my experience, it depends on the real estate, property manager and landlord. It depends how quickly they get through the applications, how much interest the property has or how long the property has been empty and how quickly they want to get it tenanted.
My first rental, I forgot I'd even applied for it. 3 weeks went by and they finally called me and offered me the property.
My current rental, I dropped off the application in the office half an hour after I'd inspected it, they offered me the lease 2 days later.
