Concerta is just long acting Ritalin. Whilst some kids don't find it as effective, most find no difference other than less tablets to take.
Not really. There is slow and long active Ritalin. Concerta, although has the same ingediance as Ritalin, has different ratios. So they effectively work the same, but side affects can be different due to this.
Concerta is slow acting, over a longer period of time , so the effects are longer lasting. where ritalin is fast acting but over a shorter period of time, so the effects are shorter - lived.
Some kids are prescribed both. These drugs can affect appetite where the child goes through long periods of time where they don't eat, or they eat very little.
These drugs are legal speed.
Ritalin was awesome, but sadly my son developed an itch and a tic so we went to concerta. It works well but not as good as Ritalin. It's affected his sleep so we r on melatonin for bed time. He's settled on it and doing well at school. There is a noticeable difference. My only issue is, he struggles to be as creative, like it's killed his artistic side. So on weekends I try to let him go with out as it does upset him that he isn't as creative. I spoke to his peed about it and he said it's fine to go with out it on weekends
Concerta was far more effective for us and we noticed he had major growth spurts since being off Ritalin which was good. The loss of appetite does not seem to be an issue with Concerta and neither does the vagueness. His personality has come back and he can be himself whilst being more in control of himself

My son also changed from Ritalin to concerta, didn’t find much difference with his behaviour between the two, but he kept forgetting to go to the nurse at school to get his lunchtime top up pill at school, hence we changed. When the pill was wearing off though, the come down from it made him worse than not being on it at all. He also struggled to get to sleep at night and also barely ate during the day.
