Custody arrangements when don't live near father

I have recently split with my son's father. He lives over 2 hours away and I'm wondering what custody arrangements do other people have in similar situations. We have said he will have him every second weekend and school holidays when he's at school. Does this seem fair?

So he gets him every second weekend (and he picks up) and then school holidays?

Personally I’d love it if my ex had our kids on the mid term holidays so I could have a break. If he didn’t live 4 hours away and only lived 2 hours away I’d be up for him having them every second weekend too.

It’s pretty standard and fair for every second weekend and half school holidays :) don’t forget special things like Father’s Day and Mother’s Day etc though.
You could always meet half way to help with fuel costs.

Also on the weekend for dad visits is dad getting him from school Friday and returning him in the Monday? Or meet half way? or you drop him off to dad Friday after school and dad drops him to school Monday morning? Something to think about if you haven’t already ❣️

I think this is fair. Your next hurdle will be who is doing all the dropping off and picking up. If you guys can come to an agreement to meet half way, it would make a huge difference to you both. Just a heads up that if the child support paying parent is doing all the driving they can make a claim to have this amount taken off the assessed payment amount.

My kids dad lives 2.5 hours away and we meet halfway. Believe me, it does start getting to you after a while, having to do the drive every second weekend. For this reason, our agreement is that he gets them every long weekend and any other weekends that he wants; we just work it out between us. He gets them also when he has annual leave during Christmas holidays. It works for us and our kids.
