Quetiapine??

Quetiapine??

Is anyone taking Quetiapine?
I recently read some long term side effects that scared me... (What is considered long term?)

Ive been taking medication for bipolar... I use to only take Quetiapine when not sleeping, but was directed to take every night to help with panic attacks.

Not sure what I'm asking... For some reason this is the only percription drug I've freaked out about taking... Wanting to know others view/experiences with Q

Thanks 😊

I wouldn’t touch it ever again! But when you need it for bipolar your best talking to your psychiatrist about changing meds. I took it less than 6 months for anxiety and it stuffed up my blood sugar and cholesterol

Oh good ole Seroquel. It’s a shocker drug. My partner had terrible side effects from weight gain to violent nightmares. Never again. He was misdiagnosed with Bipolar for years before he got a proper assessment and diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder which isn’t actually treated with drugs (DBT is treatment) but the drugs given to him (SNRI’s SSRI’s) have done so horrendous damage to his body. Please be careful. See specialist consultant (a GP simply does not have the knowledge to diagnosis and correctly prescribe)

Really?! I'm thinking this maybe my case...
I've only been diagnosed bipolar2 for the last 18months, and previously I had been on anti D's for years and years and never felt like they did anything. I take lamotrigine and moclobemide... And it's the best I've been. But I'm starting to Question the bipolar diagnosis. Your comment got me thinking and I think I am BPD. I don't even have a psychiatrist any more. My go told me to increase Q'pine.. but I just don't feel right. I don't know what to do anymore about all this stuff... Just feel completely lost.

He was on Effexor and lamotrigine up until March this year. Took him 8 months to build up the courage to drop the meds after his new diagnosis - this was his psychiatrist advice (we had read and seen the Effexor horror stories). We tried tapering down and his anxiety escalated through the roof. So we took a huge gamble at the beginning of the COVID lockdown whilst he wasn’t working and went cold turkey 2 weeks off Effexor and then took the lamotrigine. He had zero side effects off Effexor (it was a miracle). Some small side effects off lamotrigine. He’s back in group therapy and honestly he’s the healthiest (mind and body) he’s been in the 11 years we’ve been together. His cholesterol was at 9 prior to dropping the meds, I would have lost him in 6 months. Meds have their place but I’m a huge supporter for correct diagnosis and caution with any prescription. Find a good psychiatrist honey. We located ours through our local private psychiatric hospital.

I’ve been on it for nine years, it makes me hungry but helps me sleep at night.
Would rather take it and sleep well and not be crazy.
Would rather be a bit chubby and eat than not eat at all.

Get your cholesterol checked regularly. Being chubby can actually have some pretty detrimental effects in your body.

Not me personally, but a two clients at work are on it and their weight gain has been massive.
One has gone from a size 8-10 to a 20-22 in less than a year

If a psychiatrist is prescribing, trust them but trust yourself too. If you need it for getting on top of panic attacks then so be it, do it. Give it a crack, if you already take fast release for sleeping then and extended release to help calm should be tolerated. Your bloods should be monitored for any irregularities. It's a widely prescribed drug for what tour needing it for. Maybe ask for alternative drugs of your unsure.
