Getting rid of wifi

Getting rid of wifi

Has anyone else gotten rid of their home wifi? How did your children adapt?

I’m thinking of getting rid of our unlimited home wifi.
I have three boys, 17, 14 and 11.

We don’t have TV here, as our antenna is broken and the landlord doesn’t want to pay to get it fixed. So, I got wifi so we could watch Netflix, play the occasional game and look things up online.
I’m a single parent, and I work shifts, including nights and two overnighters a fortnight.
No one wants to eat at the table anymore, when I’m at work the boys take food (meals and snacks) into their rooms, which get messy, if I’m on night or overnight, they don’t go to bed, they are up gaming.
I don’t know how to reset the password on the wifi.

I’m thinking off getting rid of it altogether to try to restore order in the home.
I know I did the wrong thing by getting it :(

You can get rid of wifi but it won’t restore order and your kids are going to need some kind of internet access if they are studying.

There are things you can do to limit the wifi. Your best bet is to do a parenting course on how to set time limits on the wifi etc.

The internet being unavailable won’t make your kids eat at a table when you aren’t there.

Switch to a provider that will let you have more control over passwords etc. I totally get where you're coming from, my teenagers are unheard of at times! We always eat at the table though. Try and bring some rules around the WiFi rather than get rid of it, you will be amazed what kids do if you threaten to turn off WiFi 😂. Get onto your landlord about the aerial too that's not very fair. If a working aerial is in your agreement they have to fix it.

I think it's a necessity to be connected. Yes I've been unconnected for most of my adult life. You take back control by setting rules and routines and controlling access, you don't have to get rid of it altogether.

Areials / antennas are not usually a part of a lease . I think you will find it may actually be up to you to sort out.

Don’t get rid of it. You’ll find they need it for school work/homework on thier iPads etc. Just unplug it and hide it in your room at a certain time each night if they can’t control themselves using it.

Seems like when she is home is the problem. Like she wants to spend time with her kids. But I feel like there is plenty of other ways to do that then turning it off all together when they probably need to study.

Have you tried just banning it at dinner time?
You know you can just pull the plug out when you want to right?
Getting rid of seems excessive since your kids probably need it for studying. Maybe just set up some new rules and stick to it. Or you can just ring the provider and find out the number to get onto your router. So you can change passwords if you must.
