Pregnancy

*PREGNANCY PLANNING*

Hi IM’s!!

My partner and I have decided we want to start trying for a baby towards the end of this year. We are both relatively healthy and are in our 20’s.

I know it is different for everybody, but I’m wondering, when you started trying, how long did it take you to fall pregnant?

Do you have any tips or tricks I can start doing now to give us the best possible chance to fall pregnant straight away once we start trying?

Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you ❤️

EDIT- neither of us take drugs, smoke or drink alcohol and haven’t in quiet some time. Although may have 2-3 drinks with family & friends each Christmas/New Years.

Have a health check with your GP and discuss taking folate before getting pregnant.
Being reasonably healthy is a good start. Quitting smoking, getting some exercise and eating a balanced diet. That goes for both parties.

Hi,
what a exciting time.
I agree with the above answer you got.
Also it can all take time or be almost within the first few months. For me we tried for six years and had to have fertility treatment, but the children after were conceived easily.

It's different for everyone and the way your body works is going to be a big factor. Start tracking your cycles with an app because then you know the best times for conception. I have an extremely regular period and just by tracking cycles I've been fortunate enough to fall pregnant first cycle round each time we've decided to have another child.

I started pregnancy vitamins a few months before trying and did a general check up with my GP

We decided to try for a baby and had unprotected sex twice - BAM! DONE.

I didn't think it would happen that quickly. So we weren't prepared 😅

Just a note, while you've had some good advice re: getting and staying healthy, make sure you're having discussions about life insurances, making wills, who will stay home and for how long, research antenatal and postnatal care, start living mostly on one wage etc.

Nothing really just go with it until you fall pregnant. You could take elevit ASAP so it’s in your system, available at chemist which helps when preparing to get pregnant. It may happen striaght away or it may take time but go with it. It’s the most exciting time of your life and the moment your first hold your baby, there is no other love like it. It’s the most amazing, chaotic and beautiful time you will ever have. Enjoy the journey!

Relax, track your cycle and see what happens. It could take a month. It could take a year. You could be healthy as a horse and it still could take time so remove the pressure and enjoy the ride.

I think possibly going with the flow helped us (both 29 at the time) we got pregnant on our second try but I didnt track anything and just expected the worst, hoped for the best. Everyone is different, some people with unhealthy lifestyles fall pregnant at the drop of the hat, and unfortunately some very healthy people have trouble. I'm also not a doctor and have no evidence of this other then from what I have seen, but I have noticed women on the pill ect seem to take longer to get pregnant, I couldn't take anything for contraception and we only ever used condoms, so I also wonder if that also helped us.
