Induction experience

Induction experience

Hi mums, in 2 days I’ll be 39 weeks pregnant. That afternoon I’m being admitted into hospital to get the tape put in to soften my cervix to start an induction for the next morning. My doctor will be breaking my waters and giving the the Pitocin in a drip. I was just after some peoples experiences, how did you find the induction process, how long did you labour go for, was it smooth sailing? I understand everyone’s experiences will be different but just after some opinions and stories on your experiences as this is baby number 2 but my first induction

I have been induced twice after 2 spontaneous labours. My first 2 labours were very fast so we were expecting things to move quickly with my third but not the case, Dr decided on the drip and it was really slow, a contraction here and there but labour didnt start until he broke my waters then things moved very quickly. With my fourth child I opted to only have waters broken, nothing else and things moved very quickly after that. I think if he's breaking waters first there may not be a need for anything else as labour naturally speeds up after that.

In my day it was a gel rather than tape. The plan was the same as yours but i never got to the drip or breaking of waters as I went into labour with just the gel/tape. Baby was born at 8am the next morning. So all quite quick.

Thank you! I think she will be using the gel, she called it Tape at my appointment yesterday then the hospital said it’s actually a gel so I’m assuming it the gel

My cervix was already starting to soften when I was admitted for induction with my eldest (now 15). I had a drip put in and water broken. I was admitted at 7am, and drip in and water broken by about 8/8.30. I had my son just before 6 in the evening.

First child I had two doses of gel to bring on labour - about 4 hours after the second dose I started feeling contractions then about 7 hours later bub came. Very good experience (as good as it could be anyway) Second child went straight to the drip and I immediately went into labour, 3 hours later bub came. Second one was a lot more intense and I wasn't a fan of being connected to a drip but it was only 3 hours.

I was only ever induced with number 5 due to decreased fetal movements.
My midwife broke my water at 4.30, went into labour around 4.45, had my daughter at 6.11 and was home by 8.30

I was induced with my first child at 38 weeks. My body wasn’t ready , the tape did nothing. With it being your second child and at 39 weeks I’m guessing your cervix will be more favourable and it won’t be as bad. The drip just forced my body to do something it wasn’t ready to do and was terrible. But hey there’s epidurals for a reason :)

I had the best experience. I wasn’t quite 38 weeks. Dr broke my waters in the morning but that didn’t start the labour. I ended up with the drip which also didn’t work until they clicked it up a third time...so about 12pm I started feeling contractions and I had my baby by 2pm. It was hard and fast but good. Don’t stress about it just go with each step. I think the more stress and worry the harder labour can be. Goodluck!!

My first was natural labour and my second I had to be induced 2 weeks early
I had the tape, over night
I was Sent home the next morning and as soon as I got home my waters broke and it came on hard and fast.
It was so much more painful than my first. But thankfully everything went fine. Except my ignored requests for pain relief. Wishing you a safe and smooth delivery of Bub.

I had gel at 4pm it did nothing, the next morning my waters were broken and drip hooked up. I was having contractions but baby didn't want to come out. My baby was in distress so I had a Caesar at around 6pm that day.

Hi - congrats!
I was induced with both my kids and have totally different stories for each except for the fact that they were both 10 days late..
1st pregnancy I was 19, young and healthy. I was induced by the doctor breaking my waters, with this huge long needle. It just felt like a pinch. Drugs weren't given till about 15 hrs later to speed up my labour. baby born 24.5 hours after my waters broke.
2nd pregnancy I was 30 and had a little bit more weight on me than I would have liked. I was booked for an induction which was an injection at 7am in the morning. I waited at the hospital for 11 hours and nothing. No pains, water hadn't broken. So they let me home around 6pm at night. The moment I stepped in the house, the contractions started and they were oh so strong straight away, every 3 mins. Straight back up to the hospital where they tried to send me home again - yes you read that right - contactions 3 mins apart and they tried to send me home. The devil in me came out and said if I wasn't taken upstairs I'd "hit" the next person who spoke. (Im not a violent person at all.) How could they think that I'd be alright at home when the contracions had come on so suddently after being at the hos for 11 hours during the day. 90 mins after this, my daughter was born.....

Every pregnancy and labour is different :) Good luck
