Being a single mum during lockdown

Is anyone else finding this hard? I have kids that are too young to be left alone. My town is quite small and we've had a few cases of Coronavirus so everyone I know is self isolating. I try to shop as early as possible to avoid people. Some shops won't even let me go in with the kids even when I explain I'm a single mum with full time custody. A lot of the time IGA doesn't have what we need and nowhere is doing delivery. How are other single mums coping at this time?

It’s been challenging! Not as challenging as for you, but it’s been challenging.
Have you tried posting a job to Airtasker?? Or putting a call out on local Facebook buy/sell/swap pages, Is there a local church/charity you can ring that can help out?
We have always relied on home delivery due to my sons disabilities and it’s still not available in our area, so thanks panic buyers!! But I’ve been lucky enough my son is technically old enough to be left alone and we have a video camera so I can watch while I duck out to the shops. I also make sure I text to let someone know I’m leaving and to expect to hear from me in 45mins otherwise panic!

I did put a post on buy, swap and sell but the responses were all "Sorry I would but I'm self isolating" as unfortunately due to the fact I'm in a small town most people have come in contact with the people who have tested for it. I haven't tried a church yet, I'll do that.

I think it's discriminatory to not allow a parent with biological related minor children into a shop especially for essential items.

But call ahead and confirm this because I work for a supermarket and haven't been told no.

Currently immediate family groups are allowed out but non familiar groups, 2 only.

It's not supermarkets. Supermarkets I am fine to go to with kids. But some smaller shops won't let me :(

Have you asked your IGA if you can do an email order and just pick up and pay at arrival? If you give a few days notice they should be able to fill your order. I live in a small rural town and our IGA is offering this. Actually most shops in our town are offerring this, definitely worth ringing and asking

I'm doing fine. Take kids, put them in trolley so they're not touching everything and invading people's space. You don't need permission, just do what you have to do. Never would I explain my custody arrangements with someone in public that's insane I can't believe anyone would actually ask!

Oh wait smaller shops, they have a limit of people per square metre now. So in a small shop if it's one in one out, leave them in the trolley at the door and duck in and grab what you need.

Thank you. I think my youngest would just scream for me if I did that...but then again I feel like I have no choice at this point.
