Birth control

Let’s talk birth control

Now I’ve been on the pill since I was 18, I’m now 25. However, due to being a high risk for blood clots and having horrible period pain the doctor took me off the pill and I had the implanon inserted in July last year, but I got none stop bleeding and horrible pain so the GP put me back on the pill to stop the bleeding and sent me to the gyno,

Saw the gyno today and he wants to insert the mirena when I have my laparoscopy. Now the idea of soemthing in my uterus is a little scary and I’m wondering what has people’s experiences been like? Or what else did you use?

I can’t have the depo shot as I have rheumatoid arthritis and I’m at a very high risk of osteoporosis so having the depo shot would just double that risk. Also with the medicine I’m on for my rheumatoid arthritis I need to be a birth control
I have no children of my own, I have two step children 👶 but we would like to have a baby in a few years

Nuvo ring. Best contraception ever in my opinion. Low fuss, not invasive and avoids the other issues you mentioned.

Unfortunately not suitable for someone with a risk of blood clots and having rheumatoid arthritis means my hands don’t work properly and I wouldn’t be able o insert or remove it

I wouldn't do it personally because I've heard too many horror stories. If you are wanting to have a baby in a few years I would just use condoms and give your body a massive break

Mirena was fantastic for me. No period after the initial 3 month settling in. 8 years no side effects. Have girlfriends who also are very happy. I think Google will give you as many horror stories as you wish to read. People tend to put the bad stuff up and those who are happy just get on with their lives (ie. no posting)

Mirena is the best contraceptive I've ever used! Dont even remember it is there sometimes! Very low dose medication, local action in the uterus, long lasting and cost effective!

For me Mirena caused weight gain, mood swings - to the point of being suicidal, monthly migraines, terrible back ache, insomnia, bad cramps and heavy bleeding. I put up with it for about 18 months waiting for it to miraculously improve, it didn’t. My gyno was telling me it wasn’t the Mirena because “it doesn’t cause any of that” but I told him I want it out anyway and guess what? It all went away! Haven’t had a single migraine since (and had never had one before getting it), my mood levelled out, sleep improved, back is so much better. Some periods are still heavy and painful but even that is not as bad. The string had also gone up and wrapped around it so to have it removed I needed to be put under a general. It was horrible, start to finish.
