Hi.
I’m an EN. transitioning to RN. I’ll help where I can :)
I had no prior experience before applying for the EN. None at all. All other students in my class did. They were mostly AINs working in aged care.
It definetly gave them an advantage in terms of people experience, medication experience (side effects, applying some creams, eye drops etc etc) and knowing the basic making beds, washing hands, infection control, charting, changing people and showering.
No education is ever wasted. Ever.
I also wasn’t working in the system...they were. They made many contacts and it was easy for them to “fit” in because they knew the basics so well.
I’d highly recommend doing an aged care course, or a cert 4. Gain some knowledge and experience in the field.
I’m not saying it was easy or hard, but it was a challenge.
Everyone has strengths and weakness, so find your weaknesses and work on them. Mine was maths, I spent 3 months once a week with a tutor to pass my exams. Maths has never come naturally to me, so it was vital for me to learn.

Whichever way you decide to go - good luck, and always listen to your mentors, they have valuable life experience :)
