Schools

My child is about to start kindy and the other one is going into year 2 (he is a very independent and an active learner) and was thinking I want to take them into a Montessori school. I had a look at a couple and really liked what I saw but I am worried for when they started high school. Has anyone on here sent their kids and have had success in it? What was it like sending your child into a mainstream high school? Did they transition well? If you could share any other information that you think I need to know, please let me know. I appreciate all the help x

A lot will depend on your child’s personality type. A lot of kids thrive with the transition and some don’t. If your child is the type of child who isn’t particularly interested in self directed learning and doesn’t naturally show a curiosity for learning it’s not likely to be a good plan.
My sister would have done fantastic in a Montessori school as she was naturally curious and eager to explore and learn.
My other sister was the kind of kid who just wanted to nap, or stare into the trees. Her outcome would have been disastrous.
I worked in a literacy tutoring centre. Many of our clients were the staring into the tree type. They loved there time at Montessori but struggled with the change.
That being said, I looked into Montessori for my son, and some schools didn’t seem to follow Montessori practices and some will stick to the ethos rigidly and others will be more flexible.
Do your homework. Know your child, and ask about preparation for high school.
