ABSTUDY

I am wanting to claim ABSTUDY for a child who will be going to boarding school. We have 3 children with a combined income of $120,000.

I'm pretty sure the max the parents can earn is around 55k for the child to be entitled to anything. This could differ, being the child will be living away from home. There is an online estimator on the human services website.

ABSTUDY or Austudy?. ABSTUDY is for indigenous students only and only for uni/tafe . Austudy is for students over 25. Students under 25 get Youth Allowance but only for low income families for students at Uni or tafe. For kids still in school parents receive FTB.

Abstudy is for indigenous kids from 14, there's different elements to it.

You might be better off applying for the isolated payment.

At this income its very unlikely you will get anything. The only option is to try the online calculator or go in.

You will have to use the online estimator or ring and ask. ABSTUDY is a range of different payments so it will be hard for anyone here to tell you what you're eligible for just from what you have written here.

Please speak to the ABSTUDY line. My children board at a public high school boarding hostel. I claim AIC - assistance does isolated children. I have a friend who’s child is indigenous & she’s currently going through the process of claiming for her son, because they should work out better off using ABSTUDY rather than AIC.
Income requirements are very different for these payments.
