I'm just wondering if any of you have experience with dyslexia or similar conditions.
My son,6, has recently had a standard eye test, and passed it with flying colours.
But he is constantly muddling up his first and last letters, and getting super close to his book/paper when writing/reading.
So, have any of your children had perfect eyesight, but still had dyslexia? (Or similar conditions, if so, what?)
I completely forgot to ask the optometrist.

Optometrists are only looking for physical eye issues. So to answer your question, you absolutely can have perfect 20/20 vision and still have dyslexia.
If you're concerned, see your GP and request a referal to a behavioural ophthalmologist 😊

It’s definitely worth speaking to an organisation like SPELD. They can offer advice in regards to testing.
My sister had perfect eye sight.
She was found to have the reading level of a grade 1 student in year 5.
She received specialist private tutoring and by high school was in the second highest English class all the way thru.
The tutor taught her to catch out when her brain swapped the words on her. Ie she would read what but say that.
Dyslexia is a brain disorder not a eye problem. I’m dyslexic and have perfect eye sight and is why I wasn’t Diagnosed till 19. Research where your local dyslexic diagnostician is and talk with his school teacher about your concerns. Best of luck Mum
Behavioural optomitrist did not pick up my sons sever dyslexia.. just posting this as I know someone recommended.. it’s definitely worth seeing one, just want you to know that if nothing comes up with it it doesn’t mean your child isn’t dyslexic.
My 7 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed with dyslexia. Her eye sight is perfect. All other tests were done through her school, they have been amazing with finding out what type she actually has and giving us advice and resources on how to work with her.
Look into Irlen syndrome and lenses. An opthalmologist is a good starting point.
