Inpatient psychiatric stay

Hi mums I’m hoping there’s someone out there who can give me advice on expectations during private hospital voluntary inpatient psychiatric stays.
My partner has been admitted for over a week and so far has not seen a psychologist. Has had to very short meetings with the psychiatrist the second resulting in him increasing one of his medications to a level we have previously tried without any success. There are daily group sessions Which are voluntary attendance. He is just as angry and anxiety ridden as ever. As he has no family for support I have been copping the brunt of it (his anger about being there And frustration at the lack of help). We are paying thousands of dollars For this three week program and things are worse not better. Are my expectations too high To have expected him to see a psychologist at least twice within this time?

From our experience when my sibling was in a private clinic as an inpatient in which she opted to go to, everything was ran by voluntary choices so she had to choose when to see someone and which classes to attend etc.

Psychologists are talking therapists. They're probably involved in the group sessions. Psychiatrists are the specialist doctors and if they've already titrated medication, they will be giving time for it to have some effect before the psychiatrist reviews. Honestly though, inpatient treatment (short term) is more medication focused than anything so it sounds as though you're getting the appropriate intervention. Mental health issues (that aren't mild) take months to stabilise at best unfortunately.

I wouldn’t expect him to feel better in the first week or so. I’d actually expect him to feel worse. Treatment is challenging, it forces you to face your demons and that can be bloody uncomfortable.
Him learning how to cope without you is a good thing, and a healthier step forward. Sometimes we think we are being supportive and good listeners when we are really creating an over reliance and playing into the situation.
