Snow holiday

Snow holiday

I have tried doing my own research but not finding much. I want to start saving to take my family to the snow next year. 3 kids 1-7.
Looking for advice from anyone that has done these kinds of holidays please.
Looking at going to Victoria from SA. We would prefer to drive over.
What sort of financial goal should I be setting to cover it? Any suggestions on locations or tips for the trip? This will be our first family holiday so I'm not sure where to start!

Edited:

Sorry for the vagueness I've never been to the snow myself so I literally know nothing and didnt know what specifics to ask lol!
Probably just looking at snow play, is there areas for skating also or just loose snow?
I assume we need to hire equipment because purchasing it would be a waste I think but is purchasing cheaper? I have no idea 😂
I was thinking 4-5k as a financial goal? Too much? Not enough?

Either Mt Hotham or Mt Buller, I prefer Buller personally.

It depends if you want to enrol the kids into some ski classes, if you’ll need to hire chains for your wheels, hire all snow gear or if you’ll take it all. Do you know what you’ll be doing?

It books out fast so best to start looking around now. Personally, I’d find an Air BnB in Mansfield and drive up daily depending how long you go for as opposed to staying on the mountain but thats up to you :)

What is it your wanting to do? is it just snow play/ tobogganing etc or are you wanting the kids to learn to ski or snow board (obviously not the 1 year old lol). if its purely snow play then i would look at staying off the mountain Either in Mansfield or even look at lake mountain area (marysville etc) staying on the mountain anywhere is really expensive and IMO only worth it if you plan to ski/board each day. Just to give you a rough idea my son (15) is going next weekend for 2 nights/2 days to Buller, he is staying with family in the ir accom.. Accom for him is $225 and his lift pass is $130. My family are paying for his breakfast and dinner but he will need to pay for his lunch which will be about $30-40 each day. He isnt paying for petrol, car pass etc to get on the mountain. so all up for one person it will be about $350-400 for 2 days.

For snow play only, I agree with the above - Lake Mountain hands down. Less busy, look to stay in either Marysville or even Eildon/Alexandra and head over daily. There's also Mt Donna in Warburton where you're closer to more central things but it's hard to get up there regularly and it's easy to miss out.

Aldi have snow gear sales but it sells out quick, so hiring might be better or once snow season is over start buying second hand off marketplace and size up by a year :)

$4-5k is heaps, especially if going just for snow play so I would say that is very generous and allows you to have meals out often!

yes hire gear or ask around friends. theres no iceskating at lake mountain only soft snow. but they have tobogganing which the kids will love. In all honesty with just snow play/tobogganing two days will probably be enough. Id stay in Marysville at an air BnB then explore the rest of the area as well. $5K is heaps
