Post Partum Sex - Chances of Pregnancy?

Post Partum Sex - Chances of Pregnancy?

I had a baby via c-section 10 days ago. My post partum bleeding stopped on day 4. Hubby and I had unprotected sex on day 9 using the ‘pull out’ method. I know, very irresponsible considering we are done having our babies! What are the chances of me getting pregnant from this ‘interaction’? I read that in order for you to get pregnant you need to first ovulate and this generally happens between 24-95 days after giving birth. Surely I wouldn’t of ovulated 9 days post partum? I can’t go and get the morning after pill because of all the hormones, it increases the risk of developing blood clots. I’m guessing I just want someone to say ‘it’s fine you won’t get pregnant again’........ will buy some condoms at our next grocery shop and will talk to the dr about contraceptives at much 6 week check up.

I mean there’s always a chance you can fall pregnant, likeliness is not high but there’s a chance. We had unprotected sex 7 days after and were shitting bricks. My OB said earliest she had seen was 5 weeks postpartum but I’m sure there’s instances of less!

Always a chance, sorry

Highly unlikely as you would still have pregnancy hormone and wouldn't ovulate. More likely 4-5 weeks plus. It isn't exactly safe that short after a c section though. You have internal stitches.

Yeah, they advise no sex for 6 weeks following a c-section for good reason.... Not because you might get pregnant, but you have just been cut open, your insides rearranged, and then a shit load of stitches. But whatever, you obviously feel the need to please your man over your own wellbeing....

Liz, she's not wrong though. Go read some medical journals

Super rude. I was extremely horney after I gave birth and the sex before the 6 week mark was freaking amazing. Perhaps she was pleasing her own needs. I wasn’t bleeding either.

It may be rude but it's also stupid to ask medical questions online. Especially when a doctor would have advised what to do (and what not to do) literally DAYS AGO.

Not rude. Honest.

My partner and I had unprotected sex 7 days post c-section as my bleeding stopped after 4 days as well. You’re not alone in that at least, despite some of the other shocked responses. Unfortunately I ended up bleeding again 2 days later, not due to the sex but due to retained products from (unbeknownst to me at the time) an incomplete amniotic sac at the birth, and ended up with a horrendous infection.
Breastfeeding will supposedly reduce your chances of being fertile but this is by no means a certainty. I bf my youngest but my periods returned after 12 weeks. Definitely see your doctor or maternal health nurse and discuss contraception options.

A friend has babies 10 months apart because of the same method...

Every time you have unprotected sex, even with the bogus pull out method, you may as well prepare for pregnancy
