Advice required from seasoned travellers - flights

I have recently been on my first flight, using Jetstar.

What I want to know is, is economy class pretty much the same quality no matter the supplier??

This was a 5 hr trip and it was dam uncomfortable! I'm only a small person and I felt I had no room to move and the seats were pretty firm. Now I understand, if I want luxury I need to be looking at first class, which is way out of my budget, thus why I flew Jetstar.

Seasoned travellers, please give me your best advice for booking flights and providers you would recommend.

Honestly, it's a small amount of discomfort for a short period of your life. I wouldn't really be looking into it too much, it's standard in economy.

If you're going overseas for long flights the standards can be different and some carriers give blankets/pillows/socks etc. and you get meals included. I've found Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Qatar my top three. Anything domestic or as far as 8 hours, I don't give a hoot who takes me though as it's so short.

You can pay a bit extra and sit in the emergency exits although we found it more uncomfortable as our legs got restless with nothing to lean against. Also sitting in front seats however if there’s a baby they’ll request you move to accomodate them.

You can always try premium economy .

Yep, that’s why it’s referred to as cattle class. Cattle class comfort is pretty standard who ever you fly with.

You have to be prepared to pay a hell of a lot more to get any real improvement. I would not pay more for a 5hr flight.

We flew with Qatar for 2 very long overseas flights and their seats were really comfy, although economy is cramped no matter what. The flight had spare seats so they gave 2 of us a row to ourselves to spread out. That might be the key too, book a flight that won't be packed and you can usually spread out after take off.
