Daughter asked where here dad is

My 3 year old has just asked me where he dad is the other day. We were walking into day care and she saw a dad. She's starting to realize she doesn't have one. Shes never meet him. I left him when I was pregnant for DV and took and a restraining order. We havnt heard feim him sense even for custody.

Does any one know of any good books I can buy explaining families are different. Or any good songs? YouTube clips? I've heard there is something on play school as well?

It's getting hard now. She's really noticing she is different. I've dreaded this day since I left my ex. His a bad man who tried to hurt us. But I can't tell her he tried to terminate her. I want to tell her the truth from the beginning but for her age.

Tell her that her Dad went away before she was born and you haven't seen him since. It's just you and her, you're a family and you don't need a Daddy. Lots of families don't have Daddies. She will want to know more as she gets older and thats when you will beed to add more to your story. If you keep it basically honest from the start it is easier to tell her the brutal truth when she's old enough to hear it. Having said that though I probably would never tell her that he wanted her terminated, she doesn't need to hear it but she probably will need to hear about the DV etc so she has more of an understanding why he is not in her life.

Age appropriate for now is to ensure she knows that she is NOT different, her family dynamics may be but this is what works and she doesn’t need her daddy to make her who she is :)
