Moving to Townsville

HAs anyone here made the move from Sydney/a major city to Townsville? Was it a great decision or do you regret it?
If you live in Townsville what do you love about the place?

I dont live there but wish i did. To me it feels like an overgrown small town with all the benefits of a city. There always seems like low cost events on, Maggie Is is right there. The only thing Ive heard is that employment is hard to obtain, but if thats lined up before hand its not really an issue.

Lived there from when I was 11 to 18 (now 25). Awful place to live, people in north qld are very strange and unwelcoming. As soon as I finished high school I moved back down south and have been happy ever since.

Please don’t do it to your children.

Perhaps but this lady stated she’s moving from Sydney, I also moved from a major city down south to Townsville and I feel she may have the same issues as i did as a child and my mum did as an adult in the fact that people in north qld are very different (and clique I might add) and she may struggle with this to.

I moved from Melbourne to cairns, sometimes I regret it but on the whole, much prefer the far north lifestyle.

Oh and unemployment is really high up here, so if you don’t have a job lined up, don’t do it. Certain specialist professions are in high demand, we can’t get the right people, but lower skillled work, like general admin etc is very hard to get.

I hated it. Loved the strand the markets being close to cairns, getting to know the area. Hated the bogan ness of far north qld. Hated that it took so long to get around. Felt very cut off from everything. Its so far to Brisbane, theme parks, zoos, museums, etc. Left when i couldnt get any work and wouldnt go back.
