Child Support

Child Support

Hi all, my partner recently had a child to someone he used to see and she has been advised she needs to apply for child support to continue receiving centrelink payments. They get along really well and are both happy to do a private agreement as opposed to having CSA garnish his wages through his employer. Does anyone know what to expect from CSA? I’m assuming they’ll call him. Does he need to provide evidence of his wages? Will they contact his employer to verify his employment? I guess we are trying to be prepared so we can get everything ready so it can be finalised as soon as possible. Thanks ladies!

Go to the child support website as it has all the correct info on there website.
1. You can go private collect, where he pays the mother
2. Child support collect is where ge pays child support and the agency forwards it to the mother. Child support do not garnish wages unless he fails to make payments.

He can contact child support himself. They can tell him what he needs. But basically his projected earnings for the year. It’s really important to read the website information because if his income goes up or down he needs to notify them etc.

To be perfectly honest, its easier to just have CSA collect the money, at least then there is a paper trail if anyone ever kicks up a stink about money and how much they get. They don't take it from the employer. It will come out of your partner's account each week.
Yes he will have to tell them how much he earns. Then when he does a Tax return at the end of the financial year they will check the amounts, so he needs to be accurate.
He should call CSA hinself and find out.

If it's private collect and he pays, she can say he didn't and go CSA collect and claim back pay. Even if he shows transaction statements, if she said it was additional not child support they will seek money owed. Keeping it CSA collect protects him. He should really talk to the department who look at his record specifically. There are clauses that mean information about one case won't apply to another.

You just need to add ‘child support’ in the description on your statements and have something documented about the agreed amounts. Nothing wrong with private agreements if you have the right paper trail
