How bad is it that my 5 yr old child wants dry two minute noodles for dinner...EVERY night...I try and mix it up with other things, cherry tomatoes, grated cheese...sausages...I just can’t seem to get her to try anything new! Help!
Im just here to offer my understanding!
As a mother of a 5 year old who'll only eat toasted cheese sandwhiches...EVERY NIGHT! 😩
Its ok. I didnt make it a fight.
I got to a point recently where we werent eating anything new just stuck in a rut of pleasing her so I have stopped that. Im making meals again and she just has to eat it. Theres always enough that she likes on the plate to fill her up but theres also small portions of new things that she can try and sometimes she just has to eat it up. The aim is to clear our plate or no dessert.
Shes done so well and already has about three new foods and a whole new dinner on her repertoire.
I think its a play it by ear type thing, you know when you can push them to eat it all or try one or three bites, and you know when its way too much for them. I dont think its productive to make meal times a war zone.
My rule is that you just have to TRY and if you don’t like it after one bite, that’s okay.
So say for example, i would give the dry noodles and also a taste test of something else on the side that you have to try... (maybe make a spag bol with mince and grated veg which is always a winner in our house and a sneaky way to get spinach/zucchini/carrot into the kids), if she has one bite then let her eat her dry noddles.
It’s privably just a phase but I think it’s important to try things still because our taste buds are forever changing and she will grow to like different things.
My partner swore he didn’t like eggs until he recently FINALLY TRIED them, and he LOVES them. But he just assumed he would never like them.
