Natural alternatives for ADHD treatment

Hi,
I had an appointment today with a naturopath about natural treatments for my sons ADHD. She has given me a list of foods to avoid and foods that contain salicylates, amines and glutamates in order of what food contain these thing from negligible to very high! Also a list of food additives to avoid. I was also advised to try cutting out dairy and see how he goes. My question is, has anyone else tried this and it been a success? I'm worried about the cost etc. I'm also a bit overwhelmed with how much needs to change dietary wise as I will have to do this for my whole family. If anyone has done this and has any kid friendly recipes to share I would really REALLY appreciate if you could share them with me. Or any links to websites that may help! Any advise would be much appreciated also. Just thought I'd add that I'm using DõTERRA oils as well and natural supplements. He is also on .75mg of Resperidone (daily) and 10mg of Ritalin (5 days a week for school). I'm hoping to completely get him off the Ritalin. Thanks for reading! Xx

Tried it, waisted a lot of time and money. A
So do your research regarding the oils, with a proper doctor. Basically a huge scam.

Really? Oh no. I haven't spent a huge amount on oils so thats ok. I guess I just wanted some hope that this can be treated naturally. I know all kids differ etc but I went this way because my sons psychiatrist just wanted me to put him on more and more medication. I couldn't do it. I stuck to the first two he'd been prescribed but didn't want to give him any more. Can I ask what works for you and your child?

Peadiatricians do not want your child to take medication. They don't enjoy prescribing medications and don't get anything out of prescribing them.
If there was another way, they'd be telling you about it.

I've heard some people swear diet directly affects their kid. Are you in an adhd support group on Facebook, these are good for info specific to the diet and recipes and everything.

I am but rarely see any recipes. Can you recommend a good support group? I'm located in Gold Coast QLD if that makes any difference? Thanks

I like this one
ADHD/ADD/ODD/ASD/SPD ETC AUSTRALIAN support group

I haven't restricted diet but am sure I've seen it a few times because I always consider it but I agree it is a big task. Good luck.

We loosely follow the failsafe diet, we don't eat fresh pineapple ever, limit strawberries, citrus fruits, tomatoes, capsicum, broccoli, msg, yeast extract, most colours
It helps
But around age 9 it just wasn't enough for my boys, they've all eventually been put onto combos of risperidone and Ritalin/concerta
Risperidone saved my 12 year old from suicidal thoughts but I think without it and without our diet, he might have actually gone through with it
It all helps, but we can't have one without the other in our house
Sue Dengate has some great recipe books

Definitely worth trying in order to get your kid off speed.

Nutrition/gut health is very much linked to the brain.

The whole family will benefit from eating better. One in, all in is my motto
