Allowed to what by his partner? Be abusive? Be in hospital?
Sorry its hard to understand the details but generally abusive, ex and reconcile doesnt seem like a great idea.

It's never a good idea to relive the past. There was abuse involved as well don't you remember how hard it was ?? Where you ever happy ?? Do you want to take that risk again ?? He needs to repair himself you can't change him or fix him. Don't be fooled, it's all fun and games until you are settled into a rountine then bam!! I would rather be alone then deal with an abusive train wreck.
