I honestly think it's whatever you can afford. When I got married I appreciated the $20 from a couple with 3 kids and it took a lot for them to come as much as I appreciated the $$ from my parents and others.
Not once did I think about the amount of money but more the fact that everyone came and we had the best day.
In saying that we usually give $100 and $50 for engagements, but this is what we can afford!!

What can you afford? Seriously if you can only afford $20 that's what you can afford. If you are well off and can afford what would you like to spend?
There isn't one, it's what you can afford.
Generally speaking, you would give them a gift or money to the value of what it would cost them per head :)
It really depends on your budget. For friends we give $100 + the cost of our meals. For family it's $200, for friends or family we like it's $400.
