Molluscum Contagiosum......Help!!!!!!! :(

Hi Mums,

My little girl (8) has molluscum - Doctor says there is nothing they can do about them, the will go away in their own time - can last up to 12 months! They are spreading like wild fire, irritating and making my little one so upset! Has anyone came across this awful virus and had any success treating it?

I suffered quite badly at the same age and then again when I was older. It did go away in their own time, but I found smothering them helped get rid of them quicker. We got large bandages and wraps them tightly so that they couldn't breath and it killed them off. I believe we also used huge bandaids that a nurse friend gave us and they smothered them quicker :)

My then 8 year old got these about a year ago and we tried everything to get rid of them, then I came across a little pot of awesomeness called Mims Magic Balm at my local post office. It got rid of them in about 2 weeks. I used an ear bud to apply it as didn't want to contaminate the jar. Good luck!

To stop them spreading further:

1. No baths or swimming in pools. It's a water carried virus. Showers only.

2. New towel every night and no sharing towels.

3. If she is scratching at them, cover them with bandaids/bandages. If she opens them up, they will spread (virus is carried in the fluid inside).

Hubby had when he was in the swim team as a kid. They are a verruca (water) virus and the body needs to recognize they are foreign so the immune system will fight it. This is generally done by irritating them - particularly the first one to appear or the biggest one. MIL did this by opening them with a needle and digging out the core. DH was about 10/12 and remembers it being excruciatingly painful. The other methods mentioned here and on FB would do the same thing. Just use Vaseline or similar on the healthy skin around them to protect from the acids etc.

My child has had this for 18 months now and thankfully we are coming to the end of it. It was so difficult having to shower her separately (no more baths as they are very contagious in water) & washing her clothes and towels separately in hot water with dettol. I tried to cover them with long sleeve clothing so she wasn't contagious to other kids. I tried every cream, concoction, spray there was. NONE worked. Dr Wheatgrass etc...nothing worked. So I would scratch them off everytime they appeared - it was horrible as she would scream. I would then cover up the scab with a bandaid.
The ONLY thing that has worked is I took her to an Iridologist as my GP said most kids who get it have a very low immune system. She was put on 2 tablets per day and Vitamin D & E + Fish Oil and it has made an enormous difference. You need to boodt the immune system. My child was so sickly all the time but has done a complete 180. Unfortunately it won't disappear overnight, it will take time but they will disappear. I've had so many nights crying over it. It's a horrible thing to have and I feel for you. Good luck.

My daughter had it when she was little,

Stopped bathing her and put her only in the shower,
Also there was a steroid cream that she was prescribed that helped
