Hello sisters,
Hubby and I are expecting our first baby together next month, currently we have his 2 kids from a previous marriage week on week off, we have a fantastic relationship with the kids mum and are co-parenting great.
My question is really around how to deal with having a new baby in the mix that doesn't go with our kids back to their mums house, step kids are 6 & 4 and have just realised that this baby will live at our house 24/7.
Does anyone have experience with this situation? How did it go for you?
We have explained to the kids a few times that baby will stay here & when she's a bit older she could go and have a sleepover with them but she won't live there & we think they are finding it hard to grasp that.
What can we do to make the transition easier?

They will get it when it becomes routine. Do you have pets? Do the pets travel between the homes?
No pets don't go between houses. They have two dogs at dads house & a cat at mums :)
So explain the baby is the same as the pets. Not quite the same, but it will help them understand enough to get over the hump.
As already said, use the pets as an example. Once bubs arrives it'll all make sense to them, but for now they're probably just trying to grasp why it is occurring. Just reiterate how this baby was made by you and their daddy, whilst they were made by their mummy and daddy. So they go and see their mummy and then come back to visit daddy and step-mum :)
Kids are so much more resilient than we give them credit for..keep answering questions honestly and as the order of life unfolds they will just go on like it's perfectly normal..my middle child began asking questions about where my oldest was going at about 4/5 we just told him and he excepted..when he was older we exlplaind in more detail..he continued to ask questions for a while and we just told him the truth and he moved on..hope it all goes well :)
