Sleep time for kids

Sleep time for kids

Hey there IMs, what time do you get your primary school kids to bed? It 10pm, I just want some down time and they are still up. They make every excuse to stay up and are constantly getting up to ask me a question, or their hungry, or thirsty, scared or miss me. This is driving me insane! It usually ends with me loosing my temper or going to bed with them. Any tips to enforce sleep time appreciated.

7pm. I would be in jail if they were still up now. Give them a drink, snack, toilet, story, kiss, cuddle, night light, then say see you in the morning and walk out. If they come out give them a look and put them back quickly. You'll need to be extra strict at first now, so they get to know the routine and know you mean it.
Arent they super grumpy from going to sleep that late?

They slept in til 8 am this morning, I had to wake them up, we had 1/2 hr to get ready for school. They were tired and did give me an hard time. I was on an afternoon shift the night prior so I am guessing my husband had a hard time too.

I could imagine that, it would affect them at school too. I think little kids need 11 or 12 hours a night so theyre missing out on quite a lot. Its really ahrd when you work shifts, but its worth prioritising and getting suitable bedtime routine in place, itll benefit all of you.

That is WAAAAY too late for a primary aged kid!
8:30 the absolute latest!
You really need to stand your ground. Tell them that 8:30 is bed time, anyone that comes out of their room loses privileges. Eg iPads. No sports. Whatever they love most.
Enforce the punishment.
Have dinner on the table and eaten by 6:00. Showers. And bed between 7:30-8:30.
My brothers and sisters (and I) all went to bed at 8:30. Even in our teens. The sleep is essential for development.
